The Violence and Conflict Graduate Workshop in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge is hosting a one-day conference aimed to bring together graduate students and leading Cambridge academics to explore violence as manifested in disparate and convergent forms within and among various cultural contexts.

The conference is organised thematically around three panels, followed by a plenary panel discussion. We are seeking proposals from graduate students working on any aspect of the relationship between culture and violence to present twenty-minute papers that can fall into one of three broad categories:

- Use of violence: moving beyond state-centred approaches
- The cultural impact of violence on societies
- Legacies of violence: the memorialisation and commemoration of violence

Please send 250 word abstracts and a short academic CV to the conference organisers at violenceandconflict@gmail.com. The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2012 – notification of paper selections will be no later than March 15, 2012.
